Working with charities is profoundly rewarding on a personal level. It’s a way to give a voice to those in need, and to shine a light on those doing such crucial work in our communities.
TURNAROUND is a day centre in Bristol that provides food, counselling, showers, laundry, as well as recreational and spiritual spaces for the homeless. I went behind the scenes to show volunteers the variety of ways they could contribute at this well-equipped facility.
BOSH is the Bristol Outreach Services for the Homeless, primarily an advocacy service that assists rough sleepers and the vulnerably housed. Understandably, many service users were reluctant to be on camera, so filming required a great deal of sensitivity and respect. It was important to create a trusting environment where participants felt safe so that we could convey their experiences without compromising their dignity.
THE BRISTOL SOUP RUN TRUST coordinates a homeless outreach service in Bristol city centre, every night of the year. Their volunteers needed a clearer understanding of what to expect, so I created a video that would serve both as a recruitment tool and a training resource, showing their process in an engaging way.
The WILD GOOSE Day Centre offers vital support to individuals in crisis, including those facing hunger and homelessness. Manager Mick Connolly had this to say about the experience: “Thank you for coming in and filming, meeting the guys, but also how at ease you made them feel by kindly asking if they minded being filmed”.
THE SALESIAN INSTITUTE were gifted with this promotional video by Hubble Studios, where I worked as video production manager, director and editor.
SHOPRITE hired me for the "Act for Change" online series that highlights their social upliftment efforts. This was truly inspiring content with which to work!
I edited a number of videos for the #BETHELEGACY campaign, powered by the Nelson Mandela Foundation in collaboration with various partners. The goal was to inspire 1 million people to buy and wear the Mandela t-shirt in honour of his centenary year. One man. One nation. One hundred years.
